    Hitachi Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan; www.hitachi.com) has transferred its Fiber Optic Components Business Unit-part of the Hitachi Telecommunications & Information Infrastructure Systems Group-to a newly-formed U.S. company, OpNext Inc

    Hitachi Ltd. (Tokyo, Japan; www.hitachi.com) has transferred its Fiber Optic Components Business Unit-part of the Hitachi Telecommunications & Information Infrastructure Systems Group-to a newly-formed U.S. company, OpNext Inc. (Beverly Hills, CA; www.opnext.com). OpNext's goal is to become a world leader in the fiber optic components market. A $450 million investment will be used to grow the R&D program, expand manufacturing capability, and develop new products.
