Cahners In-Stat Group (Scottsdale, AZ; www.instat.com) reports that Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS) switches will increase the MEMS market from $3 billion in 1999 to $7 billion in 2004. MEMS switches avoid the need for signal conversion and allow for higher rates of data throughput at a lower cost.
