Corning Incorporated (www.corning.com) has begun shipment of MetroCor fiber to Level 3 Communications, Inc. (www.level3.com) for installation in metropolitan networks Level 3 has built across North America. MetroCor fiber is specifically optimized for metropolitan networks, enabling significant cost savings by reducing costly optical-electrical-optical (OEO) conversions. Level 3 expects to start installing MetroCor fiber in specific markets in the first quarter of 2001.
