General Cable's CEO announces retirement

August 9, 2001 Stephen Rabinowitz, chairman and chief executive officer of General Cable, announced his retirement August 8.

August 9, 2001 Stephen Rabinowitz, chairman and chief executive officer of General Cable (www.generalcable.com), announced his retirement August 8. The company's board of directors elected president and chief operating officer Gregory Kenny as the new CEO. John Welsh III will serve as non-executive chairman of the board.

In announcing his retirement, Rabinowitz commented that 20% of the company's revenues come from outside the United States.

Gregory Kenny has been with General Cable and its affiliates since 1982. He has held a series of operating, sales and marketing, and business-development responsibilities in that time.

Welsh has been a director of the company since 1997, with a background in investment banking, private equity, and the communications industry.
