Tempo's RIFOCS unit (www.rifocs.com) has unveiled an optical power meter, LED source, and visual fault finder with MT-RJ connector interfaces. The 556MT Optical Power Meter, 255MT 1300-nm LED Source, and 263MT Visual Fault Finder are palm-sized products that "eliminate the guesswork in finding optical-loss problems," RIFOCS says. An 850-nm LED source, the 257MT, is also available.

The MT-RJ interface eliminates the need for technicians to use hybrid cable adapters. "Technicians will find fiber-optic network-link certification and troubleshooting a faster and easier process with the new RIFOCS MT-RJ product line," the company also said in announcing the products.

Breaks in optical links as well as connector-loss problems, splices, and bends in the cabling can be isolated along the cable route. The visual fault finder's red laser beam visually verifies end-to-end continuity, and also helps pinpoint problem areas in an installation.

On a fresh set of AA batteries, the power meter will operate for more than 100 hours, the LED source will last for more than 24 hours, and the visual fault finder will provide more than 15 hours of continuous use.
