BICSI elects board members, announces Region 8

Oct. 18, 2001
October 18, 2001 Russell Oliver is organization's new president-elect; Australia region achieves 500-member milestone.

This week, BICSI (www.bicsi.org) announced the results of its annual board of directors election, and also announced that its Australia district has gained sufficient membership to earn Region status. Australia is now BICSI's Region 8.

Russell Oliver, previously BICSI's treasurer, was voted now president-elect, meaning he will take over the president-elect post in January 2002 and then become BICSI's president in 2004. He will hold that post until 2006. John Payseur, who has served as president-elect since 2000, will succeed Richard Powell as BICSI's president this coming January, and serve a two-year term.

Jean Caldwell, the organization's marketing manager, explains that the president-elect oversees BICSI's global activities. Payseur, she explains, has spent significant time over the past two years traveling the world furthering BICSI's global presence. During his tenure as president-elect BICSI opened an office in Japan and, just this week, saw Australia reach the 500-member mark.

As a Region, Australia will have a representative on BICSI's board of directors. Caldwell said that the organization has sent out self-nomination forms for the position of Region 8 Director, and that the region election should be complete by the end of November. Keeping to such a time frame will allow the Region 8 Director to join the new board when it is sworn in, in January.

Other directors elected this year include Mel Lesperance, Treasurer; Edward J. Donelan, Region 1 Director; Albert L. Feaster, Region 3 Director; and Carole El Zein, Region 6 Director. All directors serve two-year terms.

Existing board members, who will serve through 2002, are John J. Bakowski, Secretary; Chris lake, Region 2 Director; Steve Calderon, Region 4 Director; Greg H. Porter, Region 5 Director; and Jose Roberto da Silva, Region 7 Director.

In July 1998, Cabling Installation & Maintenance magazine featured Russell Oliver as one of ten professionals who, at that time, were helping to shape the cabling industry. To read that profile, click here.
