July 11, 2001 During the National Fiber Optics Engineers Conference (NFOEC), kSARIA (www.ksaria.com) showcased the industry's first fully automated standardized automation system for fiber-optic components assembly.
KSARIA's Prima system automatically processes fiber from a reel of raw fiber to a pigtail in a fiber work tray ready for the next process. Prima automatically pays out and spools the fiber onto a work tray, cuts, cleans, cleaves the end, and attaches a ferrule, outputting a pigtail every 30 seconds without operator assistance.
"Fiber pigtails are used in every aspect of device and module manufacturing and high yield and repeatability are crucial in this key manufacturing step. The only way to achieve this is with an automated manufacturing process," said Sebastian Sicari, president and CEO of kSARIA Corp.
