July 30, 2001 Corning Cable Systems (www.corning.com/cablesystems) donated 500 UniCam SC multimode connectors to the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA—www.tiaonline.org) for the TIA's recent network expansion. Thanks to the upgrade, the TIA now has the capacity to operate 100-Mbits/sec at the desktop, in addition to running gigabit speeds with a newly purchased switch.
"TIA sought the help of the Fiber Optics LAN Section members to assist in building the network," said Matthew Flanigan, TIA's president. "We are grateful for the generosity of our member companies, which continue to demonstrate their leadership in the communications infrastructure sphere."
"We are pleased to have been involved in this upgrade, and honored to donate Corning Cable Systems' fiber-optic hardware and equipment to support the TIA," said Bob Pollock, director of private network sales and marketing for Corning Cable Systems.
