July 24, 2001 The TIA (www.tiaonline.org) applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for continuing to support Normal Trade Relations (NTR) with China by defeating H.J. Res. 50, which would have restricted U.S. trade with China.
"U.S. companies are the world's high-tech leaders. With NTR, U.S. businesses can continue to work in China and contribute to its fast-growing communications, Internet, and e-commerce sectors. Both from a technical and policy perspective, it is critical that U.S. companies remain engaged in China's communications market. The U.S. Congress' vote to maintain China's current trade status protects existing U.S. high-tech investments and business in China," states TIA President Matthew J. Flanigan.
