(www.bccresearch.com) RG-251: Local Area Networks: A World Assessment, the total sales for the major LANs is estimated at $70.2 billion in 2000 and the market is expected to total nearly $236 billion by 2005. The Ethernet market currently comprises more than 50% of the market and is expected to reach $130 billion in 2005. Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) is estimated at $5 billion in 2000. The market for Wireless LAN (WLAN) is estimated at $1.2 billion, and will likely reach nearly $7.5 billion by 2005.
