Corning to maintain Caribbean fiber ring

May 18, 2001 Corning Cable Systems has signed a three-year maintenance agreement with ARCOS1--the Americas Region Caribbean Ring System.

May 18, 2001 Corning Cable Systems (www.corning.com/cablesystems) has signed a three-year maintenance agreement with ARCOS1--the Americas Region Caribbean Ring System--for an 8,600 km fiber-optic submarine cable network contract secured last June. The ARCOS1 network is linking 15 countries, starting in Miami and including the Bahamas, Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Gautemala, Honduras, Mexico, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, Turks and Caicos, and Venezuela.

The agreement includes a customized vessel that can operate in both deep and shallow waters. It will be stocked with hardware and spare parts, and will be strategically postioned within the network for quick response time. The contract also includes supply of unrepeatered spare cable, tools, and necessary measuring equipment.
