August 19, 2008 -- The promotion is the following: "Earn a $50 gas card with purchase of every JDSU Validator or Validator-NT Ethernet Speed Certifier."

August 19, 2008 -- At the BICSI Fall Conference in Las Vegas (9/28 - 10/1), JDSU Communication Test & Measurement (the former Test-Um) is holding a gas card promotion at its booth #628.

The promotion is the following: "Earn a $50 gas card with purchase of every JDSU Validator or Validator-NT Ethernet Speed Certifier. Qualified end-customers will earn a $50 gas card for every JDSU Validator or Validator NT purchased between August 15, 2008 and October 15, 2008. Purchases must be made through a JDSU authorized distributor; certain other restrictions apply."

The Validator series of handheld test tools is aimed at IT professionals who troubleshoot existing networks and Ethernet network installers who require complete physical layer testing, speed certification, and reporting capabilities.

The series' physical layer test capabilities include wire/pin mapping, continuity, split pairs, shorts, and cable length. Active network tests include port discovery, hub flash, ping, and network configuration and discovery (CDP). The tools' speed certification function runs Ethernet bit error rate tests to determine whether cabling can support the speeds necessary for certain applications. Troubleshooting capabilities determine whether SNR or SKEW caused a failure. Reporting capabilities document results and network topology with the company's Plan-Um software.

JDSU notes that it will run an identical promotion at its booth # 258 at the upcoming CEDIA in Denver (9/3 - 9/7).
