June 16, 2008 -- At NXTcomm, CommScope is launching a new line of fiber distribution hub (FDH) cabinets that consist of four fiber count configurations: 144, 288, 576 and 864.

Targeting telecom service providers deploying fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) networks, the company says its FDH cabinet line provides for total management hardware using a simple front access design, with termination, interconnection, and splitting functions located in one compartment.

"These are the first fiber distribution cabinets that CommScope is bringing to market, but we think they already offer significant benefits in ease of installation, resulting in lower installation costs," comments Lindsay Allen, director of product line management, cabinet solutions, at CommScope. "As a leader in cabinet enclosures for wireline VDSL networks, CommScope's deep experience and expertise will deliver great value and benefits to fiber network operators, too."

Another unique feature of the FDH cabinets is an open door alarm system, notes the company. Service providers are immediately notified in the case of unauthorized access to the cabinet as soon as the door is opened. Technicians can then be dispatched, who can quickly assess and remedy the situation before damage is irreparable.

Trial models are available now, with general availability planned for later this year.

"Our goal was to provide a line of FDH cabinets that contained a simple fiber management solution and passive door alarm feature currently lacking in competitive designs," concludes Allen.
