June 27, 2008 -- Optical Design Manufacturing, Inc. (ODM - Laconia, NH), a supplier of fiber-optic testing equipment and services, recently released its LFI [Live Fiber Identifier] 110, a fiber cable tester that the company says "offers the user a unique modular concept to live fiber identification."
The LFI 110 couples to any of the company's "contractor series" RP 400 optical power meters to provide complete live fiber identification. The device turns the optical power meter into a live fiber identifier to enable detection of active channels or 2 kHz tones on any singlemode network.
According to the company, the LFI 110 allows a technician to identify available fibers in the F2 portion of the FTTX network without disruption of existing subscribers. The LFI is also a useful tone detector when used with the compatible ODM TP 210 1310 nm laser source.
The company's entry-level "Tone and Trace" test kit includes the TP 210, a 1310-nm aaser source, the RP 450 optical power meterm, and the LFI 110 live fiber identifier. Pricing for the complete kit (TTK 120) starts at $999.
