July 22, 2008 -- Textron's Greenlee has introduced its PF8 Pull Force Estimator. The company says the product provides a quick and easy way to estimate in advance the pulling force required for cable pulling jobs. The information provided by the PF8 can be used to help the cable installer determine the needed capacities for the cable puller, pulling rope, and other pulling accessories.
"It is difficult for an electrician to estimate the pulling force that will be required for a pull because there are so many variables involved," comments Jim Eisele, senior product manager at Greenlee. "The PF8 allows the end-user to easily enter information about the pull, and then calculates a pulling force by combining all these factors."
The PF8 consists of a simple to use Excel-based calculator that can be downloaded to a PC or Mac for easy access (Microsoft Excel is required). The PF8 calculator estimates the required force to install the cable based upon facts provided by the user, such as pulling length, cable weight/foot, cable jacket type, conduit/duct size and type, and pulling direction (horizontal/up/down).
To use the PF8, the end-user supplies a number of facts about an upcoming cable pull including pulling length, cable weight/foot, cable jacket type, conduit/duct size and type, and pulling direction (horizontal/up/down). Using the input information, the PF8 calculates an estimate of the required force to install the cable.
