April 14, 2008 -- At ISC West, Transition Networks introduced several industrial-hardened devices designed to increase the density, speed and functionality of Ethernet networking in hazardous locations.

The company has added a Gigabit Ethernet media converter, a 4-port Power over Ethernet (PoE) switch, and a 16-port Fast Ethernet switch with two Gigabit SFP combo ports to its industrial portfolio, enabling the extension of Ethernet connectivity beyond controlled, office environments. All models are billed as unmanaged, ruggedized devices designed to reliably operate in harsh networking environments found on factory floors, outdoor enclosures or other hazardous environments. DIN-rail and wall mount brackets are included with each device as standard.

The SISTG10xx-111-LR(T) is an industrial-grade Gigabit Ethernet media converter designed to allow low-speed or legacy copper-based devices to be bridged onto a Gigabit Ethernet fiber backbone. The device has a 10/100/1000Base-T port and a 1000Base-X fiber port, offered with either fixed optics or a Gigabit SFP slot. An RJ-45 port supports auto-negotiation and AutoCross functionalities (auto MDI/MDI-X); a Link Pass Through feature provides the ability to "pass through" the loss of RX signal on one of the media ports to the TX signal of the other media port. Offered in both a standard operating temperature range of -10°C to +50°C or extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +65°C, this device also provides dual, redundant, auto-sensing 12-48VDC power inputs with reverse polarity power input protection and overload current protection as well as a relay contact output circuit for controlling external alarms.

The SISTP10xx-141-LR(T) is an industrial-grade Fast Ethernet switch with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability that is designed to provide fiber connectivity with the additional capability of powering wireless access points, voice over IP phones and IP security and surveillance cameras that may be located in remote, outdoor or factory floor locations. The switch has four 10/100Base-TX ports plus a 100Base-FX fiber port. All of the RJ-45 ports support auto-negotiation and AutoCross functionalities (auto MDI/MDI-X) as well as the IEEE 802.3af standard for PoE, providing 15.4W of power to up to four powered devices (PD). Offered in both a standard operating temperature range of -10°C to +50°C or extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +65°C, this switch also provides dual, redundant, auto-sensing 48VDC power inputs with reverse polarity power input protection and overload current protection, as well as a relay contact output circuit for controlling external alarms.

The SISTF1040-162D-LR(T) is an industrial-grade Fast Ethernet switch that is designed for compact, high-density Ethernet connectivity. It has sixteen 10/100Base-TX ports plus two 10/100/1000Base-T RJ-45 or 100/1000Base-X SFP combo ports. All of the RJ-45 ports support auto-negotiation and AutoCross (auto MDI/MDI-X) functionality; all SFP ports support both 100Base-FX and 1000Base-X SFP optics. Offered in both a standard operating temperature range of 0°C to +60°C or extended operating temperature range of -40°C to +75°C, this switch also provides dual, redundant, auto-sensing 12-48VDC power inputs with reverse polarity power input protection and overload current protection as well as a relay contact output circuit for controlling external alarms.

"Linking remote IP security cameras and Wi-Fi access points can be a real challenge, considering the 100 meter distance limitation of PoE over UTP cabling," comments Patrick Schaber, director of marketing at Transition Networks. "Installing these devices in hazardous locations previously required separate, external power supplies. Our industrial hardened PoE switch now brings all the benefits of PoE to those outdoor or factory floor locations. The addition of Gigabit Ethernet capability, as well as increased port density on our industrial-grade media converters and switches, enables us to offer our customers increased flexibility in solving their end-to-end networking challenges."
