H.264-based encoder/decoder technology streams HD video over standard IP infrastructures

June 14, 2012
From Matrox Graphics, the Maevex Series technology enables video and audio distribution over standard TCP/IP networks for applications including digital signage, collaborative video walls, and IP surveillance.

At InfoComm 2012 (June 13-15) in Las Vegas, Matrox Graphics (Montreal, Canada) has unveiled its Maevex Series, comprised of H.264-based encoder/decoder technology designed for applications including digital signage, collaborative video walls, and IP security/surveillance. Matrox says the Maevex video distribution platform offers "one-to-one unicast or one-to-many multicast" extension of H.264 encoded video over standard TCP/IP networks, via standard CATx wired and/or Wi-Fi connectivity -- to stream and display high-resolution HD video.

The Matrox Maevex preview technology being displayed at InfoComm utilizes the H.264 standard to extend and distribute high-quality digital video (with support for full HD 1080p and 1920x1200 @60Hz) and audio over standard IP infrastructures. Leveraging system-on-chip (SoC) technology, Maevex says the platform provides high-processing performance that is optimized with dedicated H.264 encoding/decoding functionality while still providing superior processing capabilities for network management, USB enablement, and RS-232 communications. The SoC architecture also enables intelligent communication between connected network appliances for integrated hardware and software management of the Maevex devices. This allows the accompanying PowerStream software to offer remote system-operator control to manage all hardware and content operations on the distribution network.

At InfoComm, in the company's booth #N1331, Matrox is providing live demonstrations of the new technology, including a Matrox Maevex encoder distributing multiple full HD video streams to a network of Matrox Maevex decoders. The Maevex decoder unit is also featured as a simple standalone digital signage appliance supporting full screen playback of locally-stored H.264 content.

"With Maevex Series technology, Matrox will provide system integrators, installers, and end users with high-performance encoder/decoder solutions that simply and affordably allow for the extension of audio and video sources," comments Ron Berty, business development manager at Matrox Graphics Inc. "The H.264 encoding/decoding platform provides highly optimized video and audio transmission over IP with minimal bandwidth consumption for unprecedented price-performance value."

The Matrox Maevex Series is expected to be available in Q4 of 2012. More information is available here.
