HCS's Cat 6a FTP cable receives ETL verification
August 8, 2006 -- Turkey's HCS has obtained formal ETL verification for its Augmented Category 6 (Cat 6a) foil-shielded horizontal cabling, as specified by the ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2-10 latest draft.
HCS, a Turkish manufacturer of LAN cabling systems, announced that it has obtained formal ETL verification for its Augmented Category 6 (Cat 6a) foil-shielded horizontal cabling, as specified by the ANSI/TIA/EIA-568-B.2-10 latest draft. The company claims to be the first foil-shielded cable manufacturer to obtain this verification.
HCS says that the cable in question, its DataLink 500A Augmented Category 6 FTP cable, HCS P/N H6A-0041x, is especially engineered to perform well beyond Category 6A standards in all transmission parameters, while maintaining 8 dB NEXT margin in the entire frequency range. According to the company, in addition to its excellent transmission properties, the Cat 6a FTP cable also offers outstanding EMC performance, providing a margin of alien crosstalk over 20 dB.
The company maintains that using its Cat 6a FTP cable in 10-Gigabit Ethernet cabling systems provides numerous benefits over use of PiMF (Cat 6a or Cat 7) cables. According to the company, these include faster, easier installation, as with the HCS FTP cable the overall aluminum foil is removed with the jacket and the tedious process of carefully removing the individual foils from each pair is eliminated. Also, the company says its Cat 6a FTP cable's individual wires easily insert into jacks, having smaller a OD as compared to a PiMF cable's basic wires; the FTP cable also minimizes termination errors, as each wire is color coded, while PiMF cables usually incorporate for white wires. HCS says its cable also minimizes link and channel failures, as exposing the cable's pairs does not adversely affect RL, impedance, and NEXT performance.
HCS says its DataLink 500A Category 6A FTP cable's design also incorporates innovations that maintain the structural and electrical stability of the cable after packaging, after installation (simulated by U-BEND & S-BEND IEC tests), and during the entire lifetime of the cabling system. The RoHS-compliant cables are are available in both PVC and LS0H (halogen-free flame retardant) versions and in a variety of colors, and ship packaged on 305-m plywood reels.
