September 11, 2006 -- Allied Tube & Conduit's latest coated steel product, dubbed Flo-Form, is an in-line galvanized, roll-formed angle designed to meet specific requirements for engineered angle profiles. The company says the Flo-Form angles enable greater design flexibility and more product line choices, while providing elevated corrosion protection via a proprietary in-line galvanizing process.

"We see a need in the marketplace for an angle profile that allows greater flexibility to design newer, more competitive end product offerings," says Edward Kurasz, vice president of Allied's mechanical division. "At Allied, we're well known for our technology and expertise with in-line galvanizing tubular products. We've used this knowledge to create an angle product that offers many of the same benefits. The possibilities for this product are endless."

According to the company, the Flo-Form angle profiles are manufactured from high strength steel and sealed with a multi-layer protective coating consisting of 99.99% pure zinc, a conversion coating, and a clear organic topcoat to thoroughly seal the surface. The angle profiles can be used "as-is" for corrosion protection, or painted and/or powder coated for added aesthetic appeal. Also, the company says the product's clear organic topcoat acts as a natural primer, minimizing the labor required for pre-paint surface preparation. Importantly, the company notes that the angle profiles are custom-manufactured to specific wall thicknesses, sizes, lengths, per the requirements of a customer's application.

"By providing a profile that meets design specifications instead of designing around a standard profile, we are helping our customers to purchase exactly what they need, while reducing their costs," continues Kurasz.

The company notes that use of the Flo-Form angle profiles bolsters cost and time efficiencies by eliminating design steps such hot-dipping, painting, or powder coating. Further, the profiles' pre-punched holes are coated and protected along with the part's other surfaces, and the product's pure zinc coating makes for easy welding.

Headquartered in Harvey, Illinois, Allied Tube & Conduit is a business unit of Tyco International.
