June 6, 2006 -- Swiss manufacturer R&M and U.S. plastic optical fiber (POF) developer FiberFin will jointly introduce a Cat 5 to POF media converter at the upcoming POF World West 2006 event.
Reichle & De-Massari AG (R&M) of Switzerland announced that it will introduce and demonstrate a Cat 5 to plastic optical fiber (POF) media converter at this month's POF World West 2006 event in Santa Clara, to be held June 21 - 22.
According to the Swiss company, the converter takes RJ-45 copper input and produces a POF output, whereby 10/100BaseTX media can support data speeds of 100 Mbit/sec and transmitted over 50 meters of POF.
R&M, a developer of "future-oriented," Layer 1 passive cabling platforms for communications networks, is represented in the U.S. by FiberFin (Yorkville, IL), a custom manufacturer and distributor of POF cabling products. FiberFin will be exhibiting the R&M converter at POF World West 2006.
