October 10, 2006 -- The company says its PowerView Pro V3 software enables efficient, automatic, reliable power management during power failures.

October 10, 2006 -- Power over Ethernet (PoE) platforms provider PowerDsine announced the launch of its PowerView Pro V3 power management software for PoE midspans in the company's 6000G, 6500, and 8000 PoE Midspan series. The announcement was made at the Cisco IP Telephony User Group (CIPTUG), held in Phoenix, Arizona.

PowerDsine says the updated software greatly enhances existing power management capabilities and offers a higher level of network security when installing PoE midspans. In the event of power failure, when the UPS kicks in, the software provides a priority scheme to ensure that power is directed to key resources during the outage. The company contends that the ability to manage power distribution efficiently enables cost savings in the size of UPS required, while extending the life of the UPS support during power outages.

The company says the software offers other benefits and main functionalities for enterprise networks, including: remote monitoring of power consumption and control power on-off; automatic activation of PoE devices according to set schedules and priorities; SNMP V3 and SSL-based security for preventing intrusion into data and power networks; enhanced authentication processes, including Radius Server and improved encryption through SSH; remote power-on reset of wireless LAN access points and network security cameras; and an automatic process for powering down IP telephones when they aren't being used.

"Reliability of power in the network is a main concern among IT managers," comments Igal Rotem, PowerDsine's CEO. "By directly linking to the centralized UPS, PoE midspans with PowerView Pro improve IT managers' ability and efficiency in controlling power over the network, better enabling them to effectively cope with power outage situations."

New units of the 6500, 6000G, and 8000 PowerDsine PoE midspan families are available with the PowerView Pro V3 software. Customers who already own managed units of these products can upgrade their midspans to PowerView Pro V3 by downloading the new version from the PowerDsine website at http://www.powerdsine.com/Support/Downloads/.

From October 9 - 12, PowerDsine is offering live demonstrations of its PoE midspans at CIPTUG, at the company's booth # 724.
