April 12, 2006 - Products in the M200 line weigh less than 2 pounds.

AFL Telecommunication (www.afltele.com) has announced the Noyes M200 series optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDRs), which will be available for shipment May 15. Products in the handheld series weigh less than 2 pounds (1 kg).

Three models are offered: the M200-MM (for 850/1300-nm multimode fiber); the M200-
Quad (for 850/1300-nm multimode fiber plus 1310/1510-nm singlemode fiber); and the M200-SM (for 1310/1550-nm singlemode fiber). The M200-MM and M200-Quad are ideal for Tier-2 certification of premises fiber-optic networks, AFL says. The M200-SM tests and troubleshoots FTTx and fiber-optic access networks.

The M200 series is based on a new hardware and software platform, which supports the following features:
Auto setup
Auto event table
Auto fiber identification, when used with a Noyes Test Receiver
Auto dual-wavelength operation
LiIon battery with operating time greater than 6 hours, tool-free access, and internal recharging
Data storage on internal, non-volatile memory or CompactFlash removable media
USB data transfer
Standard Bellcore/Telcordia SOR file format
Back-lit/transflective, color display
Dedicated test and save keys
Data entry using physical keys or touchscreen
Shock-absorbing boot with integrated quick-release adapter

The M200 stores all firmware and user preferences on internal non-volatile memory. The unit may be stored, unpowered, with battery removed for an unlimited period of time and still be up and running when needed, AFL adds.
