March 9, 2007 -- The Light Brigade will instruct three short fiber-optic training courses at the upcoming 2007 Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) in Anaheim, California.

According to a press release:

The first course, Outside Plant Hands-on Testing and Troubleshooting (SC-269), addresses testing and troubleshooting fiber-optic spans during the installation phase of projects. In addition, the course covers the troubleshooting role and how the equipment is used in emergency restorations. Various types of equipment including platform optical time-domain reflectometers featuring optical switches for high fiber count and ribbon testing, polarization and chromatic dispersion (PMD/CD) testing, video inspection scopes, and multi-wavelength automatic testing capabilities. The course will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007.

The second course, Hands-on Workshop on Outside Plant Splicing, Testing and Troubleshooting for FTTx Networks (SC-268), provides an overview of the PON topology and architecture, with a focus on how to splice and test optical splitters, and cable spans from the optical line terminal (OLT) to the optical network terminal (ONT). It includes fusion splicing, OTDR and optical loss testing, and fiber and cable handling. Additionally, techniques will be shown for measuring reflection levels of passive components and how to optimize an OTDR for testing optical splitters. The course will be held on Monday, March 26, 2007.

The third course, Hands-on Polishing, Inspection and Testing of Connectors (SC-185), consists of three stand-alone segments covering fiber-optic polishing, fiber-optic endface inspection, and connectorization testing. Each segment includes both knowledge and skill (hands-on) components. This course will be co-instructed by The Light Brigade, Norland Products and Seikoh Giken. It will be held on Tuesday, March 27, 2007.
