June 20, 2007 -- MetaGeek has introduced its Wi-Spy 2.4x, the second generation of the company's Wi-Spy wireless networking tool, designed to identify wireless signals that can cause interference with Wi-Fi networks.

According to the company, the upgraded wireless network spectrum analyzer incorporates three times the frequency resolution, three times the amplitude resolution, and twice the amplitude range of the original Wi-Spy.

Technical specifications for the Wi-Spy 2.4x are as follows:

Antenna: External, RP-SMA
Frequency Range: 2400 to 2495 MHz
Frequency Resolution: 328 KHz
Amplitude Range: -110 dBm to -6.5 dBm
Amplitude Resolution: 0.5 dBm
Sweep Time: ~165 msec
Interface: USB 1.1/2.0 compatible

The company says its freely available Chanalyzer 2.1 software "takes full advantage" of the upgraded tool's higher resolution and improved graphics, "incorporating powerful new play-thru controls, and an even friendlier user interface." The software supports both the original Wi-Spy and Wi-Spy 2.4x.
