October 23, 2007 -- Open platform IP video management software provider Milestone Systems has released its XProtect Central version 3.5, aimed at large security installations already using the company's XProtect Corporate or XProtect Enterprise software.

According to the company, the new software imparts the operational benefits of graphical overviews and customizable alarms to these users, with visual verification on the status of all connections and hardware throughout a system. The company says that XProtect Central provides superior flexibility, scalability and response control, ideal for implementations with multiple sites or buildings.

Designed for large installations with a variety of servers and devices handling security, the company says that the software manages video surveillance demands for maximum up-time, total overview, fast response, and visual verifications on alarms. The software continuously monitors the operational status and event-triggered alarms of Milestone XProtect Corporate or XProtect Enterprise servers, video surveillance cameras, and external devices such as access control units.

XProtect Central also features plug-in support for third-party systems for access control or other devices. Operators can both monitor and control these from the XProtect Central interface (close or open gates and doors, turn off smoke detectors, etc.), in addition to monitoring and verifying their status and alarms.

"Any larger security installation will benefit from the powerful overview and visual alarm verification tools of XProtect Central 3.5," says Kim Macallan, head of product management at Milestone Systems. "Getting alerts about any device or connection with a problem prompts faster, more appropriate response, keeping the security up and running at all times. It's more than just alarm and operations management; it's trouble-shooting that minimizes risk significantly."

The XProtect Central Client allows configuration of servers and user access, location maps or alarms, the interface for monitoring the system's operational status, the tools for managing alarms, pre-defining event triggers, and viewing live or recorded video for visual verifications, including previews. Running on standard computer equipment with Windows XP, 2003 or Vista, XProtect Central supports also Active Directory for ease of administration and user authentications, notes Milestone.
