Open Options taps Milestone for IP video

July 18, 2007 -- Open Options, a provider of access control platforms, has integrated Milestone Systems' XProtect IP video management software with its NPower DNA access control system.

The companies say the combined platform allows operators to easily call up live images and to search and view recorded video associated with any NPower DNA access control event. With the system, critical video data is available by clicking on a particular event or alarm.

"We are very excited about the partnership between Open Options and Milestone," comments Steve Fisher, president of Open Options. "The open platform of XProtect is a perfect fit for our NPower DNA security management system and offers our customers more flexibility in both access control and video management. This integration adds tremendous value to our overall product offering."

Based on an open architecture, Milestone's XProtect software includes application program interfaces (APIs) for partners such as Open Options to integrate within their products. According to Milestone, the open architecture allows customers to buy hardware and software from a variety of vendors, for use together in a cohesive security system. Since all the devices use a common standard of communication, newer devices are able to communicate with older security hardware, contends the company.

Open Options' NPower DNA is a scalable access control system designed to work with Mercury Security open controllers and interface modules. According to the company, the system's architecture features "drag and drop" technology and a multi-document interface offering powerful access control.

Interoperability with IP video improves the security system significantly, says the company; operators can now view access points live, on alert, and can search video recordings by event, date or time, sharing evidence with authorities if necessary. With the benefit of the Milestone software, incidences can be managed proactively and resolved faster, says the company.

"This partnership illustrates a natural synergy: both Milestone Systems and Open Options are forward thinking leaders in the security industry, with business concepts that embrace a core ethic of independence, flexibility and choice for customers. We both provide solutions based on the concept of open architecture," concludes Eric Fullerton, president of Milestone Systems.
