May 3, 2007 -- Corning Cable Systems LLC, part of Corning Inc.'s telecommunications segment, has expanded its field-installable UniCam connector product line to include the UniCam Pretium-Performance Connectors.

Corning Cable Systems' UniCam Connectors are no-epoxy, no-polish connectors that install quickly and easily in the field with a single no-consumables tool kit. The UniCam Pretium-Performance Multimode Connectors feature a 0.1 dB typical and 0.5 dB maximum insertion loss, claims the company.

The connectors will meet TIA/EIA-568 B.3 specifications for insertion loss and return loss at temperatures of -40 ° to +75 ° C, which allows the connectors to be used outdoors when enclosed in environmentally protected hardware.

The UniCam Pretium-Performance Singlemode Connectors offer a 0.2 dB typical and 0.5 dB maximum insertion loss, as well as the wider operating temperature range of -40 ° to +75 ° C. The connectors are available with a ceramic ferrule in LC-, SC-, and ST-compatible connector styles.

An upgrade over the company's the "classic" UniCam Tool Kit, the UniCam Pretium Tool Kit contains a handheld installation tool and a high-performance, diamond-blade cleaver that virtually eliminates human variability from installation, says Corning Cable Systems. With the tool kit, UniCam Pretium-Performance Connectors can be installed in about 45 seconds.

Due to the precise requirements of singlemode fiber, UniCam Pretium-Performance Singlemode Connectors must be terminated using the new Pretium Tool Kit to achieve the enhanced attenuation and operating temperature specifications. As with all of its UniCam Connectors, every Pretium-Performance Connector is 100% guaranteed to meet the published specification at the time of installation, says Corning Cable Systems, or the company will replace it.

Standard UniCam Multimode Connectors are offered with a composite ferrule in SC- and ST- compatible connector styles and have a 0.3 dB typical and 0.75 dB maximum insertion loss. UniCam Connectors also continue to be offered in FC and MT-RJ connector styles.

The connectors are suitable for deployments in local area networks (LANs), campuses, and data centers. The pproduct's quick installation capability reduces the total installed cost of connectorization, making it cost effective for all fiber applications, from the main cross-connect to the workstation, notes the company.

UniCam Pretium-Performance Connectors and the UniCam Pretium Tool Kit are currently available in Corning Cable Systems' NAFTA regions. The products will be available worldwide in June 2007.
