National Systems Contractors Association Executive Director Chuck Wilson has received a technical commendation from the Construction Specifications Institute for his three years of service on the CSI MasterFormat Expansion Task Team.
As work group leader of the construction classification document's Facility Services subgroup, Wilson was instrumental in the creation of the now definitive low-voltage divisions 25, 27 and 28.
"I am honored to have received a commendation for work that has largely been for the betterment of our industry," Wilson says. "The new MasterFormat will make a big difference for our industry. On behalf of NSCA members, I am thrilled to have been their voice and excited to enter the next phase which is putting our new divisions to good use."
The commentary phase of the 2004 Construction Specifications Institute MasterFormat is now complete and production on the newly expanded document has started. While the final document won't be for sale until later this fall, CSI has confirmed the following: division 25 as integrated automation, division 27 as communications and division 28 as electronic safety and security. A listing of the final section numbers under each division and their respective titles will be posted on CSI's Web site this summer.
The CSI MasterFormat '04 will be the most significant revision in the standard's 40-year history. It reflects the rapidly growing volume and complexity of information generated for commercial building projects -- the results of dramatic advances in construction technology. As such, the new divisions will increase awareness and understanding of the unique low-voltage skill sets. CSI created the MasterFormat Expansion Task Team three years ago to revise MasterFormat, a task undertaken only once every five to seven years.
CSI is a national association of specifiers, architects, engineers, contractors, building materials suppliers and others involved in non-residential building design and construction. For more information visit www.csinet.org.
