May 25, 2004 - Director of telecommunications at Creighton University picked for Technology Innovator in Communications award.

General Cable and NextGen Fiber Optics L.L.C. have recognized Roderick Brokofsky with the Technology Innovator in Communications award.

"The award recognizes communication market leaders that have demonstrated a high level of innovation in their approach to network design and cable system installations," says Cedric Lindsay, director of marketing at NextGen Fiber Optics L.L.C.

Lindsay says that as director of telecommunications at Creighton University, Brokofsky's forward-thinking approach to its 21st century network infrastructure led to the deployment of Blolite - blown optical fiber technology, as a financially strategic approach that provides built-in capacity. Award recipients typically adopt innovative products that contribute to the robustness of data and voice networks.

Trish Dawson, manager of market development at NextGen Fiber Optics, says Creighton University's on-going commitment to its students is to provide a cutting-edge learning and living environment, seamlessly integrating technology into their academic environment.

"Rick's choice of a blown optical fiber network is only one way in which he has demonstrated this commitment to building a flexible, dynamic communications network at Creighton that will help this prestigious university continue to offer a state of the art learning environment for years to come," says Dawson.

Brokofsky has served as Creighton University's director of telecommunications since 1996. He manages an extensive Ethernet network with more than 22,000 data jacks and 6,500 voice stations. With more than 25 years of telecommunications experience, Brokofsky demonstrates both a broad background in technology and an eagerness to embrace new industry innovations that improve the quality of his network, according to General Cable and NextGen Fiber Optics representatives.

Creighton is an independent, comprehensive university operated by the Jesuits. It has been ranked at or near the top of Midwestern universities in the U.S. News & World Report magazine's "America's Best Colleges" edition for more than a decade.

NextGen Fiber Optics L.L.C. is a privately held joint venture between GenStone Acquisition Company, L.L.C. and General Cable. It manufactures optical fiber cables and produces other products for the telecommunications, original equipment manufacturer, electrical/data distributors and military/specialty markets.

NextGen is based in Highland Heights, KY. For more information visit www.nextgenfiberoptics.com.
