TIA launches U.K. version of Convergence Technologies Professional certification exam

May 14, 2004 - Exam will reflect terminology and standards unique to the United Kingdom.

The Telecommunications Industry Association has launched the U.K. version of the Convergence Technologies Professional certification exam.

The TIA launched this in coordination with its certification advisory council members, which include Avaya, Cisco, First Telecommunications Corporation, IBM, Inter-Tel, Iwatsu, Mitel, ProsoftTraining and Siemens. The TIA worked with convergence technology subject matter experts to modify the existing U.S. version of the CTP exam by incorporating standards and technologies used in the United Kingdom. ProsoftTraining manages the CTP exam and certification program, which includes certification testing, official CTP curriculum and management of a worldwide network of CTP Authorized Training Providers.

The CTP-U.K. certification exam is a separate exam with minimal changes to reflect terminology and standards unique to the United Kingdom. Like the existing U.S. version, the U.K. version of the exam enables suppliers and channel partners to measure their employees' technical competence in three core areas: data networking, telephony networking and convergence technologies. For suppliers -- including manufacturers and service providers -- the CTP credential serves as an entry baseline for product-specific and application-specific training and certification. Channel partners benefit by using CTP certification as the common industry entry point from which multiple vendors' product certifications originate, saving expense and time lost to redundant vendor training programs.

"TIA recognizes the importance of making the CTP certification relevant to other parts of the world and creating a version to reflect U.K. technologies is a logical progression for the CTP program," says TIA President Matthew Flanigan. "We are excited about translating the CTP high-stakes exam to U.K.-based standards and about offering this new exam to professionals in the United Kingdom."

Subject matter experts from Cisco, Cablenet Training, IBM, Inter-Tel, Mitel, ProsoftTraining and other companies participated in the development of the CTP-U.K. certification exam. The exam is designed to provide a way for individuals to demonstrate that they have core competencies in data networking, telephony networking and convergence technology areas, including industry standards and protocols, infrastructure, Internet protocols, telephony concepts and fundamentals, voice over IP (VoIP), topology convergence and troubleshooting.

The TIA is based in Arlington, VA. For more information visit www.tiaonline.org.
