Jim Hayes is president of The Fiber Optic Association. Along with his wife Karen, he runs The FOA as well as VDV Works LLC, a company providing technical support to the voice-data-video industry. VDV Works consults on technology, creates technical content for training purposes and offers training programs. Jim has several books in print and is a prolific writer of articles and columns on cabling for several publications. He is a frequent speaker at seminars and conferences.
Jim and Karen started Fotec, a fiber-optic test-equipment company, in 1981. Jim has been involved in training and cabling and fiber-optic technicians since 1982, through the former Fotec as well as its offshoots Fiber U and Cable University.
