Sumitomo’s Seawell dissects the role of latency in data communications

Using financial and trading markets as a use case, Joshua Seawell described the critical importance of reducing latency when the stakes are at their highest.
Joshua Seawell, director of product management for Sumitomo Electric Lightwave, delivered the opening ICT Field of Vision Presentation, which immediately followed the opening keynote of the BICSI 2021 Fall Conference. Seawell’s presentation, titled “Exploring Connectivity Requirements Supporting Financial and Trading Markets,” emphasized the importance of latency in such high-stakes transactions. He boiled his presentation down to the nuts and bolts (or cables and connectors) of how to achieve an ultra-low-latency connection.
