"Managing electronic credentials (cards) and mechanical credentials (keys) is vitally important; the management of the card and key must be linked to a uniform security policy with a centralized key (credential) control authority," states the paper's introduction. "If proper controls are not instituted, security efforts will be compromised; the ability to properly manage a key system sets the standard for the entire physical security program."
The white paper covers key system policies, design and management, as well as the differences between mechanical and electronic access control.
