Fiber-optic HDMI video extenders support 3D content

Rack-mountable and hot-pluggable, Aten's VE882 and VE892 extenders combine transmitter and receiver functions for extending HDMI, RS-232 and IR signals using a single fiber-optic cable.

Advanced connectivity and professional AV systems specialist Aten has introduced a pair of new fiber-optic HDMI extenders designed to deliver full HD-1080p and 3D video content and applications across long distances.

The new product series from Aten includes the VE882 extender, which supports distances of up to 600 meters (2000 feet); and the VE892 extender, for distances of 20 kilometers (12 miles). Rack-mountable and hot-pluggable, the VE882 and VE892 combine a transmitter and receiver for extending HDMI, RS-232 and IR signals utilizing a single fiber optic-cable. Both are suitable for applications requiring long-distance transmission of high quality HDMI content, such as government, airport, and military sites; university campuses; industrial monitoring applications, and large-scale conference sites.

Plenum HDMI fiber-optic cables

According to the company, as point-to-point solutions, the VE882 and VE892 take advantage of single-mode fiber media and require only one fiber-optic cable for the connection of transmitter and receiver units, providing easy and quick installation and long-range extension of HDMI signals. Via their compact, small form-factor pluggable modules, both products simplify the maintenance process and reduce administration costs, says the company.

Engineered for reliability and long distance transmission, the VE882 and VE892 leverage fiber-optic technology to eliminate signal loss between transmitter and receiver units, and are immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Each extender leverages a proprietary FPGA design which offers clock regeneration that ensures exceptional high resolution video performance.

“Fiber optics provide a greater level of security than Cat 5 cabling, especially over long distances,” asserts Kevin Chen, president of Aten International. “With the availability of the VE882 and VE892, Aten offers two cost-effective and highly secure solutions to leverage HDMI video and without compromising performance. Additionally, these products overcome the length restrictions of standard HDMI cables, which are useful in data sensitive facilities and networks.”

The VE882 and VE892 extenders are available now.
