WideBand Gigabit Ethernet products pass test for standard cabling
WideBand's ProUSA Gigabit Ethernet NICs passed the functional cable test conducted by the International Academy of Science.
The test uses a collection of 90 Category 5 cables to evaluate a product's ability to operate without errors over the installed base of cables used in most office buildings throughout the United States.
The test was developed by the Ethernet User Alliance (EUA).
"We discovered that many of today's networking products won't reach the 100-meter design specification without excessive errors," says Dr. Jay Potter, secretary-general of the alliance. "These errors manifest themselves as slow network connections. This effect is seen at network speeds of 100 megabits per second and becomes especially significant in gigabit networks.
"The Alliance eE Certification assures users that the networking products they purchase have been tested on a diversity of cable types to help ensure that the products will operate properly in buildings wired according to the Cat 5 specification," Potter continues.
The ProUSA family of networking products was developed by WideBand Corp. to eliminate the need to rewire, even over 100-meter segments, since these products do not require special cabling.
The ProUSA Gigabit NIC is noted for its high performance, 10/100/1000 full duplex capability and PCI-X support with bus speeds up to 133 MHz. The products are standards-based, and have been tested to interoperate with other brands of networking products.
