The president of the Telecommunications Industry Association (www.tiaonline.org) has applauded the Federal Communications Commission's adoption of a notice of proposed rulemaking entitled "Appropriate Framework for Broadband Access to the Internet over Wireline Facilities, and Universal Service Obligations of Broadband Providers."

Matthew Flanigan says the notice will help encourage providers of broadband services to invest in new technologies.

"TIA applauds the commission for once again moving ahead with teeing up the difficult yet critical issues that will govern the future regulatory framework for broadband services," says Flanigan. "All of the industry needs an environment where the regulatory rules of the game are more clear and where all potential providers of broadband services are not discouraged from investing in new facilities and new technologies."

The TIA is the trade association serving the communications and information technology industry. The association facilitates business development opportunities and a competitive market environment.
