TIA creates new optical fiber connector intermateability standard

Aug. 12, 2003
August 12, 2003 - New standard includes requirements for polarization-maintaining fiber connectors.

The Telecommunications Industry Association has created a new optical fiber connector intermateability standard.

The standard is: Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standard - Type ST, TIA-604-2-A. The document is a revision of TIA/EIA-604-2.

FOCIS 2A presents the intermateability standard for connectors with the commercial designation ST and includes requirements for polarization-maintaining fiber connectors. This standard is issued as an addendum to TIA/EIA-604, Fiber Optic Connector Intermateability Standards. The provisions of TIA/EIA-604 apply to this document.

The requirements of FOCIS 2A have been selected with the objective of ensuring that any combination of plugs and adapters conforming to the requirements of FOCIS 2A will mechanically intermate and that intermated connector assemblies will meet a common level of performance.

TIA-604-2-A was created by the TIA FO-4.3 Subcommittee on Interconnecting Devices.

The TIA is based in Arlington, VA. For more information visit www.tiaonline.org.
