Optical LAN myths debunked

Tellabs responds to charges made in a recent Cisco-sponsored white paper.
Nov. 11, 2013

A recent white paper from Tellabs notes how "a recent Cisco-sponsored white paper, GPON vs. Gigabit Ethernet in Campus Networking, by Nicholas J. Lippis III, questions the relative value and benefits of gigabit passive optical network (GPON) solutions in federal and commercial business networks, versus legacy copper-based, active Ethernet networks.

"Lippis’ claims about GPON equipment, networks and the security of fiber simply do not stand up under scrutiny," contends Tellabs. In the counter-document, Tellabs purports to expose "the top 10 myths about GPON in Lippis’ paper -- and the real facts about GPON."
