The Telecommunications Industry Association (www.tiaonline.org) has published an addendum to the 569A standard covering pathways and spaces. The TIA/EIA-569A-6 document's official title is "Commercial Building Standard for Telecommunications Pathways and Spaces; Addendum 6 - Multi-Tenant Pathways and Spaces."
The addendum focuses on the pathways and spaces that are common to the telecommunications infrastructure in multi-tenant buildings and campuses. According to the TIA, the document recognizes the evolving nature of commercial tenant needs, the building's inherent limitations in adapting to changing tenant needs once it has been constructed, and the special attention to telecommunications pathways and spaces design necessitated during the initial planning stages of new building designs.
In recognizing these needs, the TIA says, the addendum addresses the common telecommunications pathways and spaces for multi-tenant buildings, including entrance facilities, access-provider and service-provider spaces, common equipment rooms, common telecommunications rooms, and intrabuilding and interbuilding pathway requirements.
