Construction of the new facility commenced at a ground-breaking ceremony on August 17.

Communication and security products distributor Anixter announced that it is constructing a new LEED-certified building as part of its corporate headquarters campus, located in the Chicago suburb of Glenview, Illinois.

Construction of the new facility commenced at a ground breaking ceremony on Friday, August 17; Anixter expects to have occupancy beginning in April of 2013. In accordance with Anixter’s corporate sustainability philosophy, the distributor says it will work toward LEED certification at the completion of its construction, joining other LEED-certified buildings in the U.S.

Anixter says that the annex to its corporate facilities is a reflection of the company’s overall strong growth and commitment to the Village of Glenview, Cook County and the State of Illinois. The distributor will invest more than $10 million in building the new property and has pledged to continue to contribute to the economic well being of Illinois through the creation and retention of over 125 jobs in the Chicagoland area.

According to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, “The state’s targeted investment package, estimated at $2 million, includes Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) tax credits, which are based on jobs and distributed over a period of 10 years and a training grant through the Employer Training Investment Program (ETIP). The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will administer the package, which will help create 66 new jobs and retain 60 jobs.”

“Our new facility will support our continued growth plans while offering more convenience for our employees, partners and customers,” said Bill Standish, executive vice president, operations, at Anixter. “The new facility helps to improve operational efficiency by bringing together employees to one centralized corporate campus.”
