Oberon hospital wireless enclosures prevent intrusion into air-handling spaces

Feb. 16, 2011
Oberon is positioning its wireless enclosures to simplify compliance with ICRA hospital guidelines.

State College, PA -- Oberon announced that attendees of the HIMSS11 Annual Heathlcare IT Conference an Exhibition on February 21-24, 2011 in Orlando, FL are invited to visit the company's Booth 514 to discuss factors to consider in planning healthcare wireless network deployments.

Oberon is currently positioning its wireless enclosures provide access to hospital wireless LAN access points and telecom equipment without entering the air handling space, simplifying compliance with ICRA guidelines. In addition to providing added safety, convenience, and the security of a locked door, Oberon says its enclosures also help installations meet the National Electric Code (N.E.C.) article 300.22 requirements for installing unlisted equipment above a suspended ceiling.

In hospital network environments, it is recognized that dust accumulated in hte air-handling space is a vector of infectious diseases and contamination. The Joint Commission on Hospital Accreditation (JCAHO) has established rules for mitigating the spread of disease, limiting access to the air-handling "plenum" space. Procedures may restrict the number of ceiling tiles that can be removed, how long they are removed, and procedures for cleaning the air and personnel in the work area. Infection control risk assessment (ICRA) procedures have a serious impact on cabling installation, moves, adds, and changes.
