By TIM DUFFY, CTO, Teracai -- For anyone looking to drive their business forward with technology, the NY Tech Summit is a must-attend conference in upstate New York. From intimate networking opportunities with top technology vendors like Cisco, Plantronics and Spectrum, to an educational agenda driven by IT peers – the value is unlike any other conference out there.

With 25+ educational sessions, it is impossible to attend every class offered during NY Tech Summit, June 6-8, 2018. But there are four sessions at this year’s conference I’d like to draw your attention to.

Gartner recently released a paper titled, “Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2018 [ID: G00327329].” The four sessions below relate directly with some of the trends Gartner describes in its research paper:

1. How AI can create real-time value for you

Presented by Michael Larche, St. Ann's Community

Hey Google, what is artificial intelligence (AI)? AI is the machine intelligence that brought devices like Alexa, Google Assistant and smart phones into your homes (not to mention a confusing movie from Steven Spielberg). But that’s not all. AI is changing business models and modes of thinking all over the world.

Not surprisingly, it’s Gartner’s first trend on their list of Top 10 Strategic Technology Trends for 2018.

According to the Gartner report: “A 2017 Gartner survey found that 59% of organizations are still gathering information to build their AI strategies, while the rest have already made progress in piloting or adopting AI solutions.”

What potential advantages can AI provide for you and your organization? Imagine the possibilities with Michael Larche, President and Founder of I-CIO Partner, LLC and CIO for St. Ann's Community.

Larche has been leading the adoption of AI and other disruptive technologies to bring engagement and real-time value to business operations. This session will present the journey of one organization, and prepare its audience with the coordinates to engage these emerging technologies and set course for disruption.

2. Building an intent-based data center: Powered by intent. Informed by context. Delivered across your multicloud.

Presented by Florence Huban Suraci, Cisco

“Intelligent things” is a fancy term for everyday objects with autonomous technology, allowing devices to interact with real world scenarios instantly. We are seeing this type of technology in home automation, user interfaces and recently, Internet of Things.

With terms like Internet of Intelligent Things or Intelligent IoT, the crossover has created increased capabilities and unplanned downtime for organizations who are incorporating AI into their IoT applications.

Gartner acknowledges Intelligent Things as its third technology trend, stating “New intelligent things will deliver enhanced capability to many existing things, such as IoT-connected consumer and industrial systems.”

Florence Huban Suraci will dive into industry trends such as IoT and explosive growth in data as well as the need for Data Management, applications management and workload optimization across a multicloud environment. Learn how Cisco addresses these solutions through partnerships, software offerings, and consultative services.

3. Hacker Hijinks – Human ways to steal your data

Presented by Steve Stasiukonis, Secure Network Technologies

There is no bigger concern within organizations today than security, therefore it should be no surprise that this year’s conference will feature a major focus on functional security. Continuous Adaptive Risk and Trust marks the 10th technology trend for 2018 covered by the Gartner report.

According to Gartner, “The continuing evolution of the "hacker industry" and its use of increasingly sophisticated tools — including the same advanced technologies available to enterprises — significantly raise the threat potential.”

How can you keep up? Information Security Expert, Penetration Tester and Social Engineer Steve Stasiukonis will explain the numerous ways a financial institution network can be compromised in his session, Hacker Hijinks – Human ways to steal your data.

The presentation will explain how white-collar criminals leverage the use of common people, processes and technologies to infiltrate the internal workings of your network. Steve will also share real world experiences on how his company used these techniques to breach the networks of numerous businesses.

4. An entirely new era of intuitive networking for a digital age

Presented by David Tomczak, Cisco

A little under a year ago, Cisco introduced an entirely new era of networking – one that is constantly learning, adapting and protecting. It is the intuitive network. Allow, Peter Dinklage to explain.

While Dinklage is too busy fighting Thanos to attend this year’s conference, David Tomczak will showcase this type of learning network that understands and complies with business needs. He will clarify how a business can tell the network what it needs, to be translated into policy and implement it automatically from edge to cloud.

That’s right. Cloud and edge computing together to form a new form of networking. This aligns nicely with another trend from the Gartner report.

According to Gartner, “Cloud computing doesn't mandate centralization. Edge computing brings the distributed computing aspect into the cloud style. Consider cloud and edge computing as complementary rather than competing concepts.”

See you at the slots

Just like Tyrion Lannister you too can drink and know things during the 14th annual NY Tech Summit, at Turning Stone Resort & Casino. As a presenting sponsor, TERACAI looks forward to this event every June to learn about the latest trends in technology and business. We hope to see you there!
