UL Solutions recently posted public notices about two brands of cable that claim to be riser-rated but do not meet the requirements of the riser-rating test UL 1666 Standard Test for Flame Propagation Height of Electrical and Optical-Fiber Cables Installed Vertically in Shafts.
UL recommends that both cables be removed from service and discarded.
The product names are:
- LTS LTAC5100W-CMR 99.99% Oxygen-Free Copper CMR Rated UL Listed Network Cable – Cat 5e
- BV-Tech CAT5 Riser (CMR) Solid Copper Ethernet Cable 1000FT

Here is some additional information about the “LTS LTAC5100W” cable, from UL’s notice:
The box bears a gold holographic UL label, the words “COMMUNICATIONS CABLE” and a serial number on the UL label. Only those cable boxes with UL serial numbers ranging from AL00874143 to AL00874232 are affected. The cable was known to be sold through the website a1securitycameras.com.
And here is additional information about the BV-Tech brand cable that is subject to UL’s notice:
The box bears a gold holographic UL label, the words “COMMUNICATIONS CABLE” and a serial number on the UL label. Only those boxes with UL serial numbers ranging from AN35568255 to AN35568355 are affected. The products were sold in North America, although UL Solutions did not name any specific sales channels.
