Last summer, Fotec Inc. (Medford, MA) launched a fiber-optic power meter for cable-TV applications. Designed for testing cable-TV transmission networks, the FOtest`R Catv is inexpensive enough--$239--to provide one per installer, so that technicians can guard against high-powered laser emissions. Jim Hayes, president and founder, says his company will introduce low-priced, special-purpose power meters for telecommunications and data communications applications this fall.

ADC Telecommunications Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) has announced a major expansion of its wireless physical infrastructure capabilities with the acquisition of Solitra Oy (Kempele, Finland). Solitra Oy designs, manufactures and markets radio- frequency filters and other wireless base-station components and subsystems.
