For its 25th anniversary and to reflect its focus on connectivity, Vertex (Farmingdale, NY) is changing its name to Vertex Technologies Inc. In addition to its role as a distributor and manufacturer of products and services for the data and voice communications industry, the company now provides systems integration services and technical support.

Mod-Tap (Harvard, MA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Molex Inc. (Lisle, IL), announced its 15-year system guarantee on fiber cabling systems and a lifetime warranty on product components of the system. If the fiber-optic cable is purchased from Chromatic Technologies Inc. (Franklin, MA), Optical Cable Corp. (Roanoke, VA) or Applied Photonic Devices Inc. (Brooklyn, CT) and is installed by a Mod-Tap certified fiber installer, Mod-Tap and the fiber supplier will guarantee the performance of the installation.

The Wiremold Co. (West Hartford, CT) has acquired Interlink Technologies (Broomall, PA), a manufacturer of connectivity products for voice and data cabling applications. According to Arthur Byrne, chairman of the board, this acquisition will enable the company Oto continue its development of a complete and integrated system of premise-wiring products for the voice and data communication markets.O

Laser Precision Corp. (Utica, NY) has formally changed its name to GN Nettest to reflect the fact that it is now owned by GN Great Nordic. GN Nettest will continue to manufacture fiber-optic test equipment, including modular and mini optical time-domain reflectometers and handheld power meters.

At its tenth anniversary celebration, Northern Telecom Ltd. (Montreal, Quebec) announced 15% higher revenues for 1994 than in 1993. At the same time, it introduced its new logo?Nortel.

General Signal Corp. announced that portions of Sola (Elk Grove Village, IL) and newly acquired Best Power Technology (Necedah, WI) are being integrated into a new company known as Best Power. This new company will manufacture uninterruptible power supplies to protect computers, information networks and other systems from power-line disturbances.

Optical Cable Corp. (Roanoke, VA) and Methode Electronics Inc. (Chicago, IL) have qualified and received ISO 9001 registration status, which verifies that the quality management systems at those companies comply with the international standard. In addition, Porta Systems Corp. (Syosset, NY) announced that its Hopkinton manufacturing facility, which manufactures Aster fiber-optic couplers, has been registered to ISO 9002, the international benchmark for quality assurance.

The Coaxitube division of Precision Tube Co. Inc. (Salisbury, MD) has been assigned exclusive rights to market, sell and distribute coaxial connector products from Spinner GmbH (Germany). The Spinner Cut-and-fit connector line is also available through the Coaxitube division.

Diversified Communications Industries Ltd. (West Palm Beach, FL), the parent company of American Fiber Optics Inc., issued a statement that OAFO will cease operation and commence the sale of its assets to pay outstanding obligations to subcontractors and suppliers.O AFO has been providing design engineering and construction services but is closing down as a result of two contract terminations.

Augat Inc. (Kent, WA), a manufacturer of coaxial connectors and amplifiers, recently purchased the fiber-optic transceiver provider, Photon Systems (Vancouver, BC). Augat states that it sees the acquisition as improving its ability to supply the hybrid fiber/coaxial-cable network market.

Noyes Fiber Systems has moved into a 16,000 square-foot building in Belmont, NH. The new facility was designed specifically for the manufacture of the company?s line of fiber-optic test equipment.

Delco Wire and Cable Ltd. (Concord, Ontario), a distributor of local area network wire and cable products, has opened an office in the United States.
