BICSI Webinar Covers Optical LAN Planning, Deployment

Broadcasting live on Wednesday, November 18, the 1-hour session will be delivered by experts from Nokia and is approved for 1 CEC.

On Wednesday, November 18 BICSI will offer a free 1-hour webinar that examines the principles of optical local area network (LAN), its differences from traditional network architectures, and the considerations that shape fiber-based connectivity in enterprise environments.

Titled “The Future Is Fiber: Understanding and Deploying Optical LAN,” the webinar is available free of charge to BICSI members and non-members. It will be broadcast via Zoom beginning at 1:00pm EST. The webinar is being sponsored by Nokia and the technical content will be delivered by that company’s success partner engineer Michael Cady along with its senior business development manager Chris Ennis. It is approved for 1 continuing education credit (CEC) for individuals who hold a BICSI professional credential (RCDD, DCDC, RTPM, OSP, Installer 1, Installer 2, Technician).

When BICSI announced the free webinar, it commented, “As enterprise connectivity demands grow, traditional LAN architectures face increasing pressure to deliver greater bandwidth, scalability, and operational efficiency. Fiber-based Optical LAN offers a different approach, but understanding its advantages starts with the right technical knowledge and design considerations.”

BICSI also pointed out that webinar attendees will learn the following.

  • Optical LAN fundamentals: Understanding passive optical network (PON) technology and the architectural differences between Optical LAN and traditional networks
  • Design and cost considerations: Examine total cost of ownership, infrastructure efficiency, and network design requirements, including support for WiFi 7 and emerging WiFi 8 technologies
  • Real-world applications: Customer perspectives on fiber-based enterprise and data center connectivity
