R&M recently added the ZOONA STP12 to its ZOONA splice closure family. The STP12 has a capacity of 144 splices for the connection of a few hundred FTTH subscribers. The splice closures were made to enable broadband providers to further speed up fiber optic network expansion in FTTH access networks.

The company describes installing the ZOONA splice closures as “self-explanatory”. R&M describes the cost, labor, and time-saving benefits of such a simple installation process by saying that teams can install or assemble the closures in a couple of steps without the need for special tools.

“It is even more efficient with the pre-terminated Precon types of the ZOONA splice closures. R&M offers six standard variants with up to 18 pre-terminated cable connections. The Precon solution is suitable for short-term network rollouts and distribution infrastructures that need to be set up independently of the subscriber.”

The ZOONA splice closures can be opened in a few steps, and the installer can replace or retrofit cables as the network is running. The individual cables come with QIKseal seals made for fast and easy mounting without needing special knowledge. These seals can be positioned in a couple simple steps and then screwed into the cable entry with the tension relief.

“The modular build allows the use of the same closure for different applications, loop, splice and splitter configurations. This allows broadband providers to expand their access networks with low up-front investment as well as to implement different scenarios depending on demand and requirements.”

R&M’s ZOONA outdoor splice closures meet IP68 protection requirements and are tested for three meters of water for one week. The fiber connections stay protected in both damp environments and in challenging weather conditions. The splice closures can also be used as distributors for aerial solutions in harsh environments and for the fiber optic connection of mobile communication cell sites.
