Transtector intros outdoor PoE++ data surge protector, plus new PoE injectors, splitter

April 20, 2023
Infinite Electronics company Transtector Systems has released a pair of new Power over Ethernet (PoE) connectivity products rated for use in the outside plant (OSP), and also for some indoor applications.

End-to-end power and signal integrity specialist Transtector Systems, a company of Infinite Electronics, recently released a pair of new Power over Ethernet (PoE) connectivity products rated for use in outside plant (OSP), and also some indoor, applications.

Outdoor, 10 GbE, PoE++ data surge protector

Transtector says its new industrial surge protector is designed for use with 10 Gigabit Ethernet and PoE++ networks, telecom base stations, WISP/ISP sites, IT and data centers, point-to-point links, control lines and sense loops, and other applications. The unit meets IEEE 802.3 standards for 10 GbE and IEEE 802.3bt standards for PoE++.

The company says the outdoor, 10 GbE, PoE++ data surge protector uses SASD technology to protect critical equipment in Gigabit Ethernet/PoE++ protocol data networks, while remaining transparent to data throughput. The unit protects against electrical transient surges that are generated by both lightning strikes and internal switching events. The company notes that this commercial device supports long-term system reliability by absorbing high amounts of transient energy, while maintaining a low clamping voltage.

The data surge protector has a maximum data rate of 10,000 Mb/s and handles up to 100 watts of PoE power. It is compatible with Cat6/6A STP and Cat7 STP cables. With NEMA 3R and IP65 environmental protection ratings, the device is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.

The new surge protector mounts to a pole or a wall and has several special features to protect it from the elements. These include: a dielectric lube to weatherize the shielded RJ-45 connections; a patented weatherized wiring grommet; a conformal coating on the printed circuit board assembly to protect the PCBA from moisture and corrosion; and configurable weep holes.

Transtector product line manager Dan Rebeck remarked:

“We have expanded our high-speed surge protection line with a model that can guard equipment and peripherals using the highest available data rate and PoE power levels, in outdoor conditions which are much more extreme. It utilizes our patented enclosure for user-friendly installation and provides the highest performance surge protection technology that Transtector products are known for."

Outdoor, IP67-rated PoE injectors and splitter

Also this spring, Transtector has released two new outdoor, IP67-rated Power over Ethernet injectors and a PoE-compatible splitter. Gigabit Ethernet applications for the new products include PoE cameras, LAN access points, VoIP phones, touchscreens, and card readers.

The new injectors add power to a PoE-capable device through its Ethernet data cable, eliminating the need to run a separate electrical cord to the device and to have to install a power outlet near it.

The splitter enables removing power from a powered Ethernet cable and separating it into its own power cable, which is useful for non-PoE devices that require separate power and data inputs. This prevents having to install an outlet near the device and allows use of existing Ethernet and PoE infrastructure.

The outdoor 1-Gigabit Ethernet PoE injectors and PoE splitter are useful for any RJ-45 network device that supports PoE, including cameras, wireless access points, VoIP telephones, and building devices such as touch screens and card readers.

The POEOD1GAT-TT is a 30-watt, 54-volt, one-port, end-span PoE injector that supports 802.3at+ and 802.3af IEEE standards. The POEOD1GBT-TT PoE injector features 60-watt, 55-volt, one-port operation and complies with 802.3at+ and 802.3bt.

The new POESOD1GBT-TT PoE splitter supports 60-watt, 12-volt, one-port operation and complies with 802.3at+ and 802.3bt.

The new injectors and splitter are housed in rugged metal enclosures and have an IP67 rating for outdoor and industrial use. They have removable grommets for sealing, which allow them to be used with existing pre-terminated cable. They can be mounted to a wall or flat surface. Other features include LED indicators, terminal power blocks and a grounding lug.

Transtector product line manager Rebeck remarked:

“Our new, IP67-rated PoE injectors and splitter are proving to be especially useful for transportation and telco applications, with cameras and access points being the main areas of use. They are also very functional for smart office and residential use with a focus on lighting and security."

Both Transtector’s new outdoor, 10 GbE, PoE++ data surge protectors and its new outdoor GbE PoE injectors and splitter are in stock and available for same-day shipment from the company.
