:: V-groove splicer with dual independent heat-shrink ovens

The Quantum Type-Q101-VS from Sumitomo Electric Lightwave is the third fusion splicer in the company's Quantum series. The V-groove splicer has a fully navigational touch-screen monitor, an Internet interface for remote maintenance and software upgrades, an SD port for storage as well as video, audio and software uploads and downloads. The Quantum VS is a V-groove splicer with patented dual independent heat-shrink ovens.

The Quantum line's dual heaters reduce the bottleneck of heater wait time, the manufacturer explains, for streamlined, consistent splices that increase splicing efficiency by 70 percent. All splicers in the line are compatible with the Lynx2 Splice-On Connector. The splicers also exhibit shock-, dust- and water-resistance, as well as providing a large fiber view and long electrode life.

The 910FS Optical Fusion Splicer from Greenlee Communications allows technicians to splice a variety of fiber-optic cables in indoor as well as outdoor applications. The 910FS features adapters that allow changes from 250-µm bare fiber to 900-µm buffer, as well as dual cameras with 240x magnification and a 5.7-inch color LCD screen.

It supports SC and LC splice-on connectors; automatic core-alignment technology helps technicians reduce preparation time and yield lower connection losses, Greenlee Communications says. Additionally, the splicer comes with 60 preset splice modes as well as custom user-defined modes, and can store as many as 5,000 splice results. The unit is power by a Li-ion battery.

The 910FS Optical Fusion Splicer is available as either a standard splicer-and-cleaver kit, or as a contractor fusion splicer kit.

Fusion Splicers :: Splicer upgraded for speed and reliability

AFL's Fujikura 70S fusion splicer provides significantly faster splicing in the field and easy-to-use features compared to previous models. Other enhancements built into the 70S include a motorized wind protector and tube heater for fast heating times; electrodes that provide a 3,000-splice lifespan; 4.73-inch color LCD monitor with 300x fiber magnification.

Configurable automation allows the user to customize automated functions. The Li-ion battery supports 200 splices and heating cycles per full charge, and the splicer features a six-direction drop-proof design. The transit case is designed with a detachable, built-in work table.

Video guides that can be used for operation and troubleshooting are incorporated into the splicer's software. And a short cleave length of 5mm allows versatility for splice-on connectors or small-packaging splicing needs.
