Rolling equipment racks hold up to 1500 pounds of IT equipment, fit under desk

Black Box’s 2-post equipment racks hold up to 1000 pounds and its 4-post racks hold up to 1500. The 19-inch racks are made of 14-gauge steel.

Black Box has a line of mobile open equipment racks that hold up to 1500 pounds of IT, test, diagnostic and/or electrical equipment. “Engineers, developers, technicians and designers can now clean up their desks and labs and store IT equipment neatly under their workstations,” Black Box said when discussing the open-frame equipment racks. “When it’s time to work, users can just wheel the rack out. When done, they can wheel the rack back.”

The company says the racks were developed by engineers for engineers. The 19-inch racks have M6 rails and are designed to hold servers, network switches, power distribution units, KVM switches and other rack-mountable equipment. They are constructed of 14-gauge steel and have double casters, which Black Box explains “roll smoothly over thresholds, uneven floors, carpets and rough surfaces.”

The 2-post Mobile Open Racks hold 1000 pounds of equipment and the 4-post Mobile Open Racks hold 1500 pounds of equipment. Both styles are available in 11U and 19U heights. The 11U-height rack fits under a standard-height 25-inch desk; the 19U-height rack fits under a standing-height 38.5-inch desk. All of Black Box’s Mobile Open Racks feature a 20x20-inch bottom shelf for additional equipment storage.

Joey Bernardo, infrastructure product manager with Black Box, commented, “We developed these racks in-house for our own use. We couldn’t find any racks that were strong enough to stand up to daily use—and abuse—so we designed our own. Because we actually use the racks, we know exactly what engineers and developers need, and designed the racks to be practical, durable and easy to roll.”
